About nishmas yisroel
Founded in 2009 by a group of young men with a vision to create a true community based on the teachings of The Ba'al Shem Tov Hakodosh, Nishmas Yisroel has grown into one of London's most vibrant Kehillos. In 2013, Nishmas Yisroel became constituent members of the Federation of Synagogues and in May 2014 the Kehilla moved to new premises on Brent Green, Hendon.
Rabbi Tugendhaft שליט"א
Rabbi Dovid Tugendhaft שליט"א together with his Rebbetzen Shoshana and their children have been part of Nishmas Yisroel from its inception and instrumental in its design and direction.
Having learnt under Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel זצ"ל at Yeshivas Mir and being one of just two people to have received Semicha from the Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Tugendhaft is over-qualified as our community leader and is treasured as a rare gem.
In 1999, he founded the Ohr Yisroel Congregation in Elstree, where he served as Rabbi for six years.
'Reb Dovid' is also deeply involved in the wider community, serving as a Senior Maggid Shiur in the Hasmonean Beis Programme and having initiated the revolutionary Federation ShailaText service of which he is one of the 5 Rabbonim who have fielded tens of thousands of thousands of Shailos. His gentle, warm, fresh and genuine approach, coupled with his clear and deep knowledge of Torah and Halochoh makes him the ideal leader of our Kehilla.
